Ludic Life of Sugar

31/10/2018 15:58

Beginning in your childhood, joy moments are surrounded and connected to sweets. Whether at birthday parties, offered as a reward for good behavior or simply to show affection, candy is seen as happiness. The seduction behind sugar is also enhanced by animated characters, many colors, balloons, toys, parties and anything that will bring up a child´s attention. What becomes difficult, in adulthood, is to face the fact that eating sugar not only becomes an emotional crutch, but also the cause of other problems like weight gain, migraine, premature aging, wrinkles, stretch marks, cellulite, hypoglycemia, diabetes and even cancer. Sugar does not nourish, quite the opposite, it was considered a drug in the past.

I enjoyed reading this book "No Sugar, With Affection" by Sonia Hirsch . An easy read, it talks about the impact of sugar in our body and behavior. Below is a short excerpt:

"Sugar gives a certain mental confusion, scientifically explained by the insulin encounter with an amino acid called tryptophan that is rapidly converted in the brain into serotonin, a natural tranquilizer.

In India, a few centuries before Christ, doctors used sugar as medicine. By the year 600, the Persians came up with brown sugar, and then they began to dealing it. Europe had no sugar. It was imported and so expensive, only the nobles could buy it, ‘No drugs to the poor.’

In 1665, Britain was importing 8 million pounds of sugar per year. That same year, the bubonic plague killed 30,000 people in London, people who had access to sugar, because nobody in the country side, among the poor, died.

Did no one suspect the relationship between the new disease and the great sugar consumption? Since sugar predisposes infection in the body because of its excessive acidity. Maybe they suspected it, but they remained silent because it would be a crime to imply that the Crown enriched at the expense of a harmful addiction. And it was then and it is so today."

Once again the political and economic interests take over.

God save the lemons

31/10/2018 15:49

One of the easiest and best secrets for amazing health is drinking half a glass of warm water with half squeezed lemon on an empty stomach as soon as you wake up. This morning pick me up aids the digestive system and helps flush out toxins. Even though lemon water is acidic, once ingested, it has the closest pH to your blood taking on the role of a blood purifier. Lemon is a fabulous antiseptic and lime-water juice also works wonders for people having heart problems, owing to its high potassium content.

 It prevents constipation and diarrhea, by ensuring smooth bowel functions. It helps reducing pain and inflammation in joints and knees as it dissolves uric acid. It strengthens the liver, helping balance the calcium and oxygen levels in the liver in case of a heart burn. Lemon juice helps replenish body salts especially after a strenuous workout session.

Lemons are vitamin C rich citrus fruits that enhance your beauty, by rejuvenating skin from within bringing a glow to your face, preventing acne and wrinkles. One of the major health benefits of drinking lemon water is that it paves way for losing weight faster, thus acting as a great weight loss remedy. It is also a rich source of nutrients like calcium, phosphorus, potassium (which helps nourish brain and nerve cells), magnesium and pectin fiber (beneficial for colon health). It has medicinal values (ie, it cures common colds) and antibacterial properties. It contains traces of iron and vitamin A. The vitamin C helps maintain your immune system and thus, protects you from the clutches of most types of infections.

I once heard… “When life gives you lemons, squirt someone in the eye.” – I might change my mind next time.

Vital Energy

30/10/2018 18:00

Do you sleep eight hours a night but still wake up feeling tired? Do you tend to be a pessimistic? Do you get sick easily? Do you get blanks out of the blue and memory failures often? Do you feel like you have no magnetism? Or that you are unable to leverage any project or career? Are you afraid of lots of things? Do you tend to get upset easily?

 We may be eating healthy, breathing and sleeping well, but still not feel recharged. In this case, it our vital energy might be compromised!

Psychic energy or vital energy is the term used to describe aspects of the supposed power generated by thoughts and emotions.

As the name implies, this energy is fed by its connection to life. It is key because through it we draw the strength to achieve everything we want in life, we go through challenges, and with this energy we follow our soul’s path.

The vital energy comes in when we breath in, it runs throughout our body revitalizing our cells at all levels, and we unload all stagnant energy by exhaling. This energy is this magnetism that people get when their eyes sparkle, which makes their body move, and makes you breathe, eat and talk.

According to our everyday choices, we are able to feed this energy or let it run away from our body through addictions, negative and obsessive thoughts, bad habits, unhealthy diet, hectic life, toxic companies, lack of forgiveness, personal lies, by not living in the present or focusing on other people’s lives, for example.

In addition, we may create energy blocks in certain parts of the body and consequently manifest physical, emotional, mental and spiritual unbalance which may be very well reflected by attitudes such as worry, fear, anger, sadness, low self esteem, stress, depression, discouragement, etc. The bad management and constancy of these emotions will cause disease and attract more negative events in our lives. The cycle feeds itself.

Everything that happens in one level reflects on the other, so we should see ourselves as a whole and try to keep us in harmony in order for the life energy to flow freely. So what can we do? Nourishing healthy relationships and positive environments, listening to good music, reading good books, investing in self-development, getting to know yourself and connecting with nature are some good ways to feed your vital energy.

Your emotional state of mind is the starting point for everything that happens in your life because you are able to manage challenging situations and attract more positive ones if you keep it in good stands.

Peace, well-being and prosperity depend on your balance.

Water is king!

30/10/2018 12:41

Imagine not drinking any water, tea, or any other liquids for the next eight hours. Well, that’s essentially what you do while you sleep. Alright, you don’t sleep eight hours a night… me neither. Regardless, while you sleep, your body slowly becomes dehydrated because it needs fluid to operate. So one of the best things you can do after you wake up is to drink at least 16oz (500 ml) of water. Water fires up your metabolism (by up to 24%), hydrates your cells (helping the production of blood and muscle cells), helps your body flush out toxins, gives your brain fuel, purifies the colon, allows for better absorption of nutrients in your system and may even make you eat less.

Drinking water in the morning may propel the cure or help heal the following diseases: headache, body aches, heart problems, arthritis, tachycardia, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis, asthma, tuberculosis, meningitis, urinary tract problems, kidney disease, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, diabetes, hemorrhoids, all eye diseases, constipation, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear, nose and throat.

The most indicated method according to the Japanese Medical Society is the following:

  • The moment you wake up, before you even brush your teeth, take 4 glasses of water (160ml);
  • Clean or brush your teeth soon and don’t eat or drink anything for 45 minutes, then you may eat your breakfast;
  • After breakfast, take 2 hours before you drink or eat anything.
